NHS funding for glasses and eye tests
Please have a check of the list below, if any apply to you the NHS will fund your sight test and/or a portion towards your glasses. If you have any questions about your entitlement please contact us, or we can go through it all during the appointment.
You qualify for a free (NHS funded) sight test if you are:
Aged under 16
Aged 16, 17 or 18 in full time education
Aged 60 or over
Diagnosed with Diabetes or Glaucoma
Considered to be at risk of Glaucoma (as advised by an ophthalmologist)
Aged 40 or over and the parent, brother, sister, son or daughter of a person diagnosed with Glaucoma
Registered blind or partially sighted
Eligible for an NHS Complex Lens Voucher (glasses prescription over a +/- 10.00)
Claiming Benefit (Universal credit, Income Support, Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance, Pension Credit or receiving Tax Credits.)
Named on a valid HC2 (full help) or HC3 (partial help) certificate
You can get help with the cost or your spectacles or contact lenses if you are:
Aged under 16
Aged 16, 17 or 18 in full time education
Prescribed Complex Lenses (your optician will advise you of your entitlement)
Claiming Benefit (Universal credit, Income Support, Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance, Pension Credit or receiving Tax Credits.)
Named on a valid HC2 (full help) or HC3 (partial help) certificate
If none of the above apply to you, the cost for an eye test is £35.
